Urbandub’s second album Influence was released under Lighter Records. From there, Filipino music lovers started to take notice. Their raw and heavy hit tracks “Come,” “Give,” and “Would You Go” rocked the Philippine music scene. Urbandub’s musical growth can be seen and heard in their five albums.īecause they lacked support from major record companies, Urbandub released their debut album Birth as an independent band in 2001. Since they already loved their band name, they did not bother changing it. The songs “Sailing” and “Eating Me” are perfect examples of their earlier style. Because of line-up changes and experimental influences, their music has evolved into a different type of rock. Urbandubstarted as a reggae band mixed with dub, ska, dancehall, hiphop and rock. The band consists of Gabby Alipe (lead vocals, guitar), John Dinopol (lead guitar), Lalay Lim (bass) and JanJan Mendoza (drummer, since 2003). With infectious blend of forceful rhythms and powerful lyrics, Urbandub is a rock band that proudly hails from Cebu. With tours in the Philippines and across Asia, and five albums under its belt, Urbandub has certainly made it big.
